Tragedy-- Llanely Rios

TRAGEDY

Tragedy is the worst thing that can happen to someone. No matter what shape or form tragedy is always the hardest thing in life to come over. I believe tragedy happens for a reason whether it’s because you have at one point in your life have done something wrong, or because god is testing you. Some people believe tragedy happens for no reason at all.

Gatsby was a really good person he grew up poor. But had it in mind to change that for someone he loved and wanted to be with Daisy, who told him they could never marry because he was poor. So he left for the war, when he came back he came into money and finally was good enough he thought for Daisy. He looked for her but when he found her she was already married.

There were many tragedies in this book. Another one can be when Daisy and Gatsby were in the car together. Daisy was driving when Merdal ran out into the middle of the road and tried to stop the car because she thought it was tom. Daisy hit Merdal but kept driving away. Well Merdal's husband Wilson was really hurt by this tragedy of his wife being killed. So he went to Daisy’s house and her husband Tom went outside to talk to him. Which tom was having an affair with Merdal his wife. Well Tom told Wilson that Gatsby was the one who owned the car. So Wilson went over to Gatsby’s house and killed him and then killed himself.

Tragedy comes in many shapes and forms. I went over about four tragedies that were all different from one another in many ways. No matter how big or small tragedy is you should still over come it.

The American Dream-Juan C. Zeron

"The American Dream"

"The American Dream" means a lot of thing to the people that lived it and achieve it. I think there is no right answer to this phrase. To most of the Latin People means a better life and a better future. Some people described it as getting money and power, but some think it’s a better education, finding love, and happiness.

It’s an illusion for the people that are far away. But the ones that are living it in reality get disappointed, because is not what they expect it will be. They lose their hope and they think they will never accomplish that dream.

Gatsby is the one that thought “The American Dream” was getting money and power so he didn’t had what he really wants (Daisy) so I think he was wrong about “The American Dream”, it wasn’t about money and power to succeed in life I guessed he was wrong about the way he wanted to succeed.

I think the events that lead up to Gatsby's death it was when he got rich and powerful. He didn’t see the other side other “The American Dream”. He was so confident that he never knew he’ll end up killed.

Laura Hernandez Final Exam

Every person has an American Dream. To most people their American Dream is to come to the united state and live a better life than they had before. People come because in the United States they get a lot of freedom and the right to do pretty much anything that is not illegal.

U.S. citizens in America don’t realize how much freedom, money and a better future the have from the rest of the world. On the other hand people who don’t have what U.S. citizens have think they should move to the united state to get the opportunity succeed. Illegal Aliens risk their life trying to succeed in the United States to obtain their American Dream.

Fahrenheit 451 is not related to The American Dream in any way. In the book they don’t have the right to do anything. People tell them what they have to do and how to do it. They didn’t have the right to read books or have a book in their possession. If they where found with a book the firemen would destroy their property. Many peoples American dream is to be a writer.

In my opinion this book was bogoose, it was probably written by someone whose dreams got destroyed, and decided to write about how unfair things can be. Or maybe the publisher just wants to show people the rights that people “take for granted”; it all really depends on how you see the ultimate goal, which for some it’s to accomplish their unique “American Dream”.

My topic is on The American Dream. I will be comparing it to The Great Gatsby.
The two books are very similar because the both have to do with respect, freedom and money.
In the great Gatsby book, Gatsby wants respect because but never had it because he was poor. As Gatsby got rich no one would give him respect because they knew his money was dirty. The higher class men would of respected him if his money was earned in an honest way.
Gatsby was a poor man with many dreams. There was only one that always dreamed for, which was the American dream. Because he was poor he couldn’t marry daisy, even though he wanted to. Gatsby becomes a boot legger, and makes dirty money. So no one respects him.
Freedom has a lot to do with the book. Gatsby never had freedom. The always tried to hide from the police so he wouldn’t get caught. In the end people believed that Myrtle killed Gatsby. But Gatsby gets shot and dies. Gatsby’s American Dream is now over because he dies.
The American dream is different for everyone. It has to do with the same three things such as money, freedom, and respect. Some people don’t always achieve their dream. Some get more then what they asked for. the Great Gatsby has a lot of good examples of the American dream.

The American Dream By: Santos Vazquez

THE AMERICAN DREAM

What do you think what means, “The American Dream”? To me The American Dream means that you should have the opportunity of everything. Like wealth and freedom. And in the book Fahrenheit 451 it does not relate to this.
The American Dream should be that you should have the opportunity for everything. But I think that everyone makes there own American dream. Who ever wants to live poor, does it. And who ever wants to live rich does it also. But there are people that have that opportunity and don’t take it.
The American Dream for everyone is mostly wealth, freedom, and fame. Like for me is fame because I want to be remembered in the future and forever. Also the money is the most one to have. So I can give my family everything.
In Fahrenheit 451 it does not relate to the American dream. Why? Because people don’t have the choice to read a book. They don’t have the freedom to do so.

The American Dream

My topic is going to be on the American dream. How this American dream has to do with the book the great Gatsby. How money, respect, and freedom all come together in this book.
In the great Gatsby, Gatsby is a poor man. He wants to get married with daisy, but she doesn't because he is poor. Gatsby then becomes a bootlegger. He starts getting money and becomes rich. money has to do a lot in this book because they all want money and be rich.
After Gatsby became rich he wants respect. All the higher class man get to know him, but they still don't have respect for him. all the other man didn't have respect for him because they knew that his money was dirty money. they knew that they got there money in a good way.
Freedom never really came to Gatsby. Gatsby was always trying not to get caught by the police. At the end of the book they accused him of killing Myrtle. Gatsby then gets shoot and dies. Gatsby's dream and the American dream is all over.
I think this book describes the American dream good. To every one their American dream is different, but in some way is the same things money, respect, and freedom. the American dream does not always come true because things always get in the way.

Karina Martinez-final exam

The American Dream: Reality or Illusion? What an interesting question to ask. The American dream has a variety of definitions and whether it's reality or just an inspiring illusion, its a subject thats highly debated. Some think this famous dream is a reality because of their experiences. Others are determined it's just an illusion because they havn't achieved a single thing. So what is the American dream?

A lot of us believe that the American dream is to be rich. Not love rich or rich with happiness, but to be overflowing with green, rectangular pieces of paper; money. We all, who believe in the dream of Americans, assume that it's getting an education to make money, a lot of money, to buy about five cars and maybe four houses. Then get more money just to have it. To be able to tell others about how much money you have. But, maybe not all of us "Americans" think this way.

In my senior english class, our teacher had us read "The Great Gatspy". This book was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. He wrote about a man, Jay Gatspy, who was very poor when he was a boy but became very wealthy once he was older. It seemed as though the world loved Gatspy... or his money I should say. But all the man ever cared about was winning the love of a woman, a woman named Daisy. She never married him when they were younger because he was poor and she was rich. Gatspy's fans were happy to know him and to be able to drink expensive drinks at his expensive parties that he never even attended, but Gatspy was never satisfied. In the end he died at a young age and unhappy for the love of his life never came to him. Which goes to show that happiness can never be bought. Money doesn't mean anything when to comes to love.

In conclusion, I would have to say that i do believe on the American dream and I'm always looking foward to it. I believe that our dream as Americans is to be happy, whether this is having money like no other, living on the beach with the trees and the animals, or just having a loving family. We all dream to be loved and to live with a smile on our faces. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

For some its just part of their ethnic group, but for other is “The American Dream”. The American dream that maybe one day they will be able to reach and accomplish anything they put themselves to, and that there will be no stopping for what they want to do.

People that grew up in the United States don’t realize that there is millions of people out there that just wish they where in their position. Money, freedom, a better future, are just some of the things people look forward to moving to the U.S. People risk their life just trying to come to the U.S., in order to make their American Dream come true.

Some People in the U.S. see it as a “right” while people from other parts of the world see it as a privilege. A privilege that will make them succeed in accomplishing their ultimate dream, “The American Dream”.

In the novel Fahrenheit 451, it’s the complete opposite of what people see the American Dream as. In the book people don’t have the right to do what they want, or what they believe in. they weren’t able to read books, which for some is their American dream to become a publisher, or a novel writer etc. and this book takes those dreams apart and throws them in the potty.

Tania Cruz Final Exam

I have learned many things about the American Dream and have heard different perspectives.

For instance in the Great Gatsby book, the American Dream was pictured as being wealthy, marrying someone wealthy, and just living a wealthy life without carrying about others emotions. But, what people don't realize is that no matter how wealthy you may be, you still won't be happy.

So what is the American dream? I personally think it depends on the person and how they picture it. The American dream doesn't have a specific meaning. To me it's just about living a happy life and having things you want without taking them for granted. It's about giving yourself and your children a good life, having a decent home, a working car, having a faithful husband/wife, and not having to live pay check by pay check.

I came to a conclusion that there wasn't at least one person who i considered to be happy in the Great Gatsby book. Although they did come out as happy people, deep down inside they weren't. They were people who desired to have more and to solve their problems they had affairs. That shouldn't be a representation of what the American Dream. It should be pictured more dream like rather then depressing.

Raymond Vargas - Final Exam

The AmericanDream can be anything. But it is usually money. If you were to ask someone about the American Dream, they will tell you it's money. If you were to read The Great Gatsby, you will find that in there.

The idea of the American Dream was written down in The Great Gatsby. it shows how some rich people have to go to great lengths to get money. Gatsby had to get money to try and get Daisy Buchanan. He had to do many things for the money he had at the end.

The American Dream is more of an illusion because not everyone can get money like the rich. Some people actually kill themselves while trying to accomplish it. Even if it wasn't an illusion, not everyone succeeds.

The Great Gatsby is a great example on why the American Dream is an illusion. Gatsby got all the money and stuff, but couldn't get Daisy back. He eventually was murdered by Wilson because of what Tom told him. After that, everything goes back to like if nothing happened.

Jaymie Salevao Final exam

The American dream to me means to have freedom. To be able to do what you want to do. To be able to start something and finishing it. Your still going to have struggles but the at the end, you have succeeded. The American dream is to be happy, if your not happy then your not living the dream.
The Great Gatsby was a book that taught a lesson. Some of us got it, and some of us didn't. It was for everyone to realize that you don't have the American dream unless you love what you do and it brings you happiness. People think it's about having money.
In the Great Gatsby it shows that being rich and having everythingis nothing. Everyone thought that Gatsby was living the dream. Because he had a mansion, money, he threw great parties. That was the dream. People envied him, because he had what they didn't and wanted. But Gatsby thought otherwise.
He was not happy. He wanted Daisy. He loved her so much. He was willing to give up all his fortune for the woman he loved. Then he died because he covered for Daisy, who ran over Myrtle and she died. To me he died because he was rich and sad and was supposely living the dream. But he realized that it wasn't the dream.
He wanted to be with Daisy and that was his dream. If your not happy then something has to change. Not all people live the American dream.

Tragedy: A medieval narrative poem or tale typically describing the downfall of a great man. I think this definition is a great reflection of Beowulf, who is a great worrier. Beowulf is a great leader and a powerful man who has a reputation taking down the most deadly monsters. He has been called apron by the king to slay one of the most evil creatures, Grendel. perfect task for who has Beowulf's long history of destroying villains. He excepts the battle and travel over seas to take on the challenge.

Beowulf and his men land on the village. enters the kingdom for the first night and comes into contact with Grendel. The animal goes on a rampage into the kingdom and Beowulf is there waiting for him. Beowulf and the monster battle inside the village, He chops off his arm and kills Grendel. He is now the hero everyone and everyone is fond of him. Later on he takes over the kings role which has a spell that's hunted by Grendel's mother. He marries the queen and he is now on top of the kingdom.

After having interactions with Grendel's mother in the past he is forced to fight one more time. The middle aged Beowulf is challenged to slay the dragon which is his son. He heads back to the village to battle it out with him. The dragon was getting the best of Beowulf but just like everyone he fights Beowulf manage to come out on top for the victory. As the spell was still on Beowulf he slays the dragon but as he killed the dragon he kills himself in the process. Him and the dragon die at the same time. Beowulf is a great worrier who really triumphed in his Earlie life but he fell in love with having glory. This is a real story on how a great man went from triumph to tragedy.

The American Dream by Mayra Olivera

The American Dream is ones biggest desire. Gatsby's American Dream was to gain Daisy's love. In order to do so he became wealthy.
Ones American Dream could be anything. Whether its being the wealthiest person in the world or being able to get by everyday. In my opinion The American Dream is very real. Everyone has their own to try and accomplish.
Gatsby did not accomplish his American Dream. Even though he became a wealthy man he was not able to get Daisy's love and affection. Daisy was a gold digger and didn't know what love is.
The American Dream is the thing that one wants the most. Something you would practically do anything for. The American Dream would be your greatest accomplishment.

The Great Gastby and The American Dream.(Ada Munoz)

The relation with these two are simular. The Great Gastby. The title includes Great that has many definitions: like Successful, Achivement, and Power. These all link to the American Dream to many people, talk about how it is to acheive. To go to school, graduate college and getting into a career that makes you successful. After, Live your life with riches and to be powerful with money, and life.

The Great Gastby, was rich and powerful. Friends with powerful people. This book is all about money, love and power. Getting caught up in the middle of everything. Money and riches ...
Obsession.

Discrimination to the poor. A tragety love. A leading to murder. The American Dream is a visual to many. Seeing life perfect so one says.

The American Dream is a obsession. Thats why many risk their lives. Die in a desert trying to come to America to "Live" the "American Dream". Money, Women, and Power is in the thoughts of many. So we realize that The Great Gastby is really not too Great.

Great: acheivement, successful, and powerful. Are to be kept in mind.

Fahrenheit 451 was an interesting book. Reality hits you when you read it. You realize how much it relates to the real world. So much tagedy and hatefullness are simulated and well compared to real life.

A tragedy is a serious drama typically describing a conflict between the protagonist and a superior force and having a sorrowful or disasterous conclusion that ecites pity or terror. That sums up the book in one definition. Tragedy was the main point in the book.

Fahrenheit 451 had tragedy because firemen were killing dreams and excitement of the people in the town. People loved reading books and loved the excitement but the firement did not want to allow it. If people were caught with any books the firemen would burn the house down right along with the books.

I think that it is a shame that the firemen would treat people in that kind of manner. The people dont hurt anybody by just writing a book. It is a tragedy that two human beings would treat peole in the way for no reason at all. The thing that makes this such a unique book is that it relates to the real world so its easier for you to understand.

Final Exam The American Dream:jessica varela

The book Fahrenhiet 451 relates to the American Dream, because the book Fahrenheit 451 didn't have freedom for their society at all. They would discriminate those who loved to read. And this is how the American dream goes...

To me the American Dream is when you have the freedom to do whatever is on your mind. My American Dream is to finish college and to persue my career. Also my American Dream is to have freedom to speak, to stand out for myself. Money, power, and to be sucessful.

In the book Fahrenheit 451 after people hoped for help to mankind in the aftermath of the war that had been declared. Montag, a character in the book, his role was to memorize the book of Ecclesiastes. And after the jet bombs Montag and his new friends moved to search for survivors and to rebuild civilization. I relate this to the American dream becuase an American dream is to make things better to make things better to make a society a better place. Montag and his friend search for people! all becuase of books. because they had no freedom what's-so-ever.

My essay theme is the American Dream because an American is to have freedom of all opportunity and the book didnt have that at all. So i believed that this is why the American Dream is realted to the book.

Tragedy By Mitzy Palafox

The meaning of tragedy is something horrifying happens. Everybody goes through difficult times in life. The book Fahreinheit 451, people never realized what was going on. They weren't allowed to have books and if they had any the firefighters would burn their homes.
Montag was a fireman. He was curious upon why they weren't allowed to have books. Supposably the government wanted everybody happy but he didn't want his citizens to read. It caused a lot of tragedy to Montag because once they found out he had books, they began looking for him. He was all over the news.
His wife Mildred was crazy. She would try to commit suicide by swallowing many pills. By the next day, She acted like nothing had happened. Not remembering she was hurting herself is tragedy because maybe Mildred could have died. Montag later on would ask himself if he was happy. In reality was wasn't.
The government said he wanted everybody satisfied and unstressed. But what about books? If that's what made people happy, why couldn't he just let them keep it. Montag wanted books and because he wasn't allowed to, he went through tragedy in order to get what he wanted and that was to read books to find the TRUTH.

The American Dream--Titania Briggs

I Am the American dream. I'm a lot like Gatsby.I got a big house with two cars and little people clean my house.

Since being the best isn't always easy. i make fun of other people to keep life balanced.

when Gatsby talks about his life. it reminds me of being back home. sipping tea with the family.

So you ask what is the American dream? your mom! and possibly your dad.

I think the American dream is real. I mean look at Micheal Jordan and Gatsby. I am the American dream.

Rebekah Thebodeau final exam

"The Meaning of Tragedy for Grendel"
Grendel is the monster from the beginning of the story (and or movie) Beowulf.
The reason I picked this combination for the final is so I can not only point out Grendel's tragedy but all of the ones the not only effect him but other people. Like Hrothgar, the king of Harriot, also the father of Grendel. Hrothgar slept with Grendel's mother (who never had a name known as "witch, old hag, monster in the lake"). She offered him peace and gold and a crown if he got her pregnant, so he did. After Grendel was old enough she let him loose to attack the town (towns tragedy). The Queen found out about Hrothgar and Grendel's mother, so the Queen refused to sleep with the Hrothgar to bare him a son. So the attacks on the town slowly worsened and soon he called out for Beowulf who killed Grendel the Kings only son which drove the king to suicide. Which was the kings ultimate tragedy.
Beowulf had to kill the mother and he got the same offer as the original king had so he slept with her (this is connected to Grendel because she had Beowulf "make" her a new son.). Which starts the whole new tragedy.
Grendel is supposed to be a disgustingly hideous monster, he also looks "slimey" and like yuck... He's supposed to be very strong and tall. In my own opion this is a tragady it's self.
So the meaning of tragidy for Grendal to me is he's llost an outcast alone and fatherless so probly full of remorse and hate, he had no one but his mother to keep him company which made him like a gaint baby. He had no real life outside of there cave. This is his tragedy.

~X{Gatsby's American Dream}X~

In the book "the great Gatsby" it illustrates to the reader that if your American dream is to achieve wealth and fame. that you need only to seek it and it will come

For example, in the book, Gatsby searches to obtain wealth in order to gain the attention and affection of his love interest. Gatsby ended up making a portion of his dream come true by attaining wealth and becoming a playboy of sorts. However, the book also depicted the dark side of the American dream (If I will) because Gatsby ended up not getting the girl and he was shot and killed which I hear is not that fun...

In my opinion not everyone can achieve the American dream like Gatsby did. because in order to attain fame and fortune in the real world you have to be good at something, have some type of talent (and in all honesty not everyone is that talented).

so, In conclusion It is next to impossible to achieve the American dream of having vast amounts of wealth (which is most every one's dream) if you are not at least talented. the exception, of course, would be those lucky few (cough, cough Youtube, cough) so even though is is sort of an illusion of the American dream it is a good read if your bored.

The American Dream By:Evan Byram- final exam

The american dream means different means to peoples. some peoples american dreams are freedom, play rock band, to be a singer, to be a teacher, have alot of money,to get married to a beautiful girl and spend the rest of my live with her,and so much more. Some counties doesn't have freedom and have their own dreams. That why they come to America because they don't want to listen to a king or a queen.
Having a king or queen is like having a boyfriend or girlfriend that going out with every one else like you son, your daughter, your farther, your mom, some one you don't like and so much more people. they love to boss you and the other people around and you had to do everything they told you to do because you had no freedom.
Every book have a American dream some tell you about what other people want to do, for a example "Farihite 451" because the book is about the government making firefighters burn books because they didn't want anybody to learn more than what they already know. I really want to burn all the books because we have computars that we could read the books off the internet. We could just listen to the books on a CD on a cd player or download it on a ipod or mp3 player.
that is the American to people. I really want to know what is you American dream. thanks for reading this.

How I think Edgar A. poe died. Well, im really not sure. But the things that i do know that he didn't die of is that they say he ahd rabies when he didn't. because there was no proof of a bite mark or skratchfound on him. and they say he owned cat and im not sure if cats had rabies but the cat was not found at the time. The dotors had a good idea to say rabies because at the time there wasn't really a good cure for it. So to me it only leads to one thing and that is drinking. One of the headlines say "If POE HAD SUCCEEDED WHEN HE SAID NEVERMORE TO DRINKING". So that says he had to be drinking on his last day.And it says that he was sweaty on the day he went to the hospital and he was very pale so that tells me he was getting a fever with the side effects.Poeple say he was sitting on a stu by a saloon drunk. Then 4 days later he had died. And it most had been a fever or had a deadly sickness. And im thinking that it might have not been from drinking he probly just got real sick.
