Tragedy-- Llanely Rios

TRAGEDY

Tragedy is the worst thing that can happen to someone. No matter what shape or form tragedy is always the hardest thing in life to come over. I believe tragedy happens for a reason whether it’s because you have at one point in your life have done something wrong, or because god is testing you. Some people believe tragedy happens for no reason at all.

Gatsby was a really good person he grew up poor. But had it in mind to change that for someone he loved and wanted to be with Daisy, who told him they could never marry because he was poor. So he left for the war, when he came back he came into money and finally was good enough he thought for Daisy. He looked for her but when he found her she was already married.

There were many tragedies in this book. Another one can be when Daisy and Gatsby were in the car together. Daisy was driving when Merdal ran out into the middle of the road and tried to stop the car because she thought it was tom. Daisy hit Merdal but kept driving away. Well Merdal's husband Wilson was really hurt by this tragedy of his wife being killed. So he went to Daisy’s house and her husband Tom went outside to talk to him. Which tom was having an affair with Merdal his wife. Well Tom told Wilson that Gatsby was the one who owned the car. So Wilson went over to Gatsby’s house and killed him and then killed himself.

Tragedy comes in many shapes and forms. I went over about four tragedies that were all different from one another in many ways. No matter how big or small tragedy is you should still over come it.

The American Dream-Juan C. Zeron

"The American Dream"

"The American Dream" means a lot of thing to the people that lived it and achieve it. I think there is no right answer to this phrase. To most of the Latin People means a better life and a better future. Some people described it as getting money and power, but some think it’s a better education, finding love, and happiness.

It’s an illusion for the people that are far away. But the ones that are living it in reality get disappointed, because is not what they expect it will be. They lose their hope and they think they will never accomplish that dream.

Gatsby is the one that thought “The American Dream” was getting money and power so he didn’t had what he really wants (Daisy) so I think he was wrong about “The American Dream”, it wasn’t about money and power to succeed in life I guessed he was wrong about the way he wanted to succeed.

I think the events that lead up to Gatsby's death it was when he got rich and powerful. He didn’t see the other side other “The American Dream”. He was so confident that he never knew he’ll end up killed.

Laura Hernandez Final Exam

Every person has an American Dream. To most people their American Dream is to come to the united state and live a better life than they had before. People come because in the United States they get a lot of freedom and the right to do pretty much anything that is not illegal.

U.S. citizens in America don’t realize how much freedom, money and a better future the have from the rest of the world. On the other hand people who don’t have what U.S. citizens have think they should move to the united state to get the opportunity succeed. Illegal Aliens risk their life trying to succeed in the United States to obtain their American Dream.

Fahrenheit 451 is not related to The American Dream in any way. In the book they don’t have the right to do anything. People tell them what they have to do and how to do it. They didn’t have the right to read books or have a book in their possession. If they where found with a book the firemen would destroy their property. Many peoples American dream is to be a writer.

In my opinion this book was bogoose, it was probably written by someone whose dreams got destroyed, and decided to write about how unfair things can be. Or maybe the publisher just wants to show people the rights that people “take for granted”; it all really depends on how you see the ultimate goal, which for some it’s to accomplish their unique “American Dream”.

My topic is on The American Dream. I will be comparing it to The Great Gatsby.
The two books are very similar because the both have to do with respect, freedom and money.
In the great Gatsby book, Gatsby wants respect because but never had it because he was poor. As Gatsby got rich no one would give him respect because they knew his money was dirty. The higher class men would of respected him if his money was earned in an honest way.
Gatsby was a poor man with many dreams. There was only one that always dreamed for, which was the American dream. Because he was poor he couldn’t marry daisy, even though he wanted to. Gatsby becomes a boot legger, and makes dirty money. So no one respects him.
Freedom has a lot to do with the book. Gatsby never had freedom. The always tried to hide from the police so he wouldn’t get caught. In the end people believed that Myrtle killed Gatsby. But Gatsby gets shot and dies. Gatsby’s American Dream is now over because he dies.
The American dream is different for everyone. It has to do with the same three things such as money, freedom, and respect. Some people don’t always achieve their dream. Some get more then what they asked for. the Great Gatsby has a lot of good examples of the American dream.

The American Dream By: Santos Vazquez

THE AMERICAN DREAM

What do you think what means, “The American Dream”? To me The American Dream means that you should have the opportunity of everything. Like wealth and freedom. And in the book Fahrenheit 451 it does not relate to this.
The American Dream should be that you should have the opportunity for everything. But I think that everyone makes there own American dream. Who ever wants to live poor, does it. And who ever wants to live rich does it also. But there are people that have that opportunity and don’t take it.
The American Dream for everyone is mostly wealth, freedom, and fame. Like for me is fame because I want to be remembered in the future and forever. Also the money is the most one to have. So I can give my family everything.
In Fahrenheit 451 it does not relate to the American dream. Why? Because people don’t have the choice to read a book. They don’t have the freedom to do so.

The American Dream

My topic is going to be on the American dream. How this American dream has to do with the book the great Gatsby. How money, respect, and freedom all come together in this book.
In the great Gatsby, Gatsby is a poor man. He wants to get married with daisy, but she doesn't because he is poor. Gatsby then becomes a bootlegger. He starts getting money and becomes rich. money has to do a lot in this book because they all want money and be rich.
After Gatsby became rich he wants respect. All the higher class man get to know him, but they still don't have respect for him. all the other man didn't have respect for him because they knew that his money was dirty money. they knew that they got there money in a good way.
Freedom never really came to Gatsby. Gatsby was always trying not to get caught by the police. At the end of the book they accused him of killing Myrtle. Gatsby then gets shoot and dies. Gatsby's dream and the American dream is all over.
I think this book describes the American dream good. To every one their American dream is different, but in some way is the same things money, respect, and freedom. the American dream does not always come true because things always get in the way.

Karina Martinez-final exam

The American Dream: Reality or Illusion? What an interesting question to ask. The American dream has a variety of definitions and whether it's reality or just an inspiring illusion, its a subject thats highly debated. Some think this famous dream is a reality because of their experiences. Others are determined it's just an illusion because they havn't achieved a single thing. So what is the American dream?

A lot of us believe that the American dream is to be rich. Not love rich or rich with happiness, but to be overflowing with green, rectangular pieces of paper; money. We all, who believe in the dream of Americans, assume that it's getting an education to make money, a lot of money, to buy about five cars and maybe four houses. Then get more money just to have it. To be able to tell others about how much money you have. But, maybe not all of us "Americans" think this way.

In my senior english class, our teacher had us read "The Great Gatspy". This book was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. He wrote about a man, Jay Gatspy, who was very poor when he was a boy but became very wealthy once he was older. It seemed as though the world loved Gatspy... or his money I should say. But all the man ever cared about was winning the love of a woman, a woman named Daisy. She never married him when they were younger because he was poor and she was rich. Gatspy's fans were happy to know him and to be able to drink expensive drinks at his expensive parties that he never even attended, but Gatspy was never satisfied. In the end he died at a young age and unhappy for the love of his life never came to him. Which goes to show that happiness can never be bought. Money doesn't mean anything when to comes to love.

In conclusion, I would have to say that i do believe on the American dream and I'm always looking foward to it. I believe that our dream as Americans is to be happy, whether this is having money like no other, living on the beach with the trees and the animals, or just having a loving family. We all dream to be loved and to live with a smile on our faces. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

For some its just part of their ethnic group, but for other is “The American Dream”. The American dream that maybe one day they will be able to reach and accomplish anything they put themselves to, and that there will be no stopping for what they want to do.

People that grew up in the United States don’t realize that there is millions of people out there that just wish they where in their position. Money, freedom, a better future, are just some of the things people look forward to moving to the U.S. People risk their life just trying to come to the U.S., in order to make their American Dream come true.

Some People in the U.S. see it as a “right” while people from other parts of the world see it as a privilege. A privilege that will make them succeed in accomplishing their ultimate dream, “The American Dream”.

In the novel Fahrenheit 451, it’s the complete opposite of what people see the American Dream as. In the book people don’t have the right to do what they want, or what they believe in. they weren’t able to read books, which for some is their American dream to become a publisher, or a novel writer etc. and this book takes those dreams apart and throws them in the potty.

Tania Cruz Final Exam

I have learned many things about the American Dream and have heard different perspectives.

For instance in the Great Gatsby book, the American Dream was pictured as being wealthy, marrying someone wealthy, and just living a wealthy life without carrying about others emotions. But, what people don't realize is that no matter how wealthy you may be, you still won't be happy.

So what is the American dream? I personally think it depends on the person and how they picture it. The American dream doesn't have a specific meaning. To me it's just about living a happy life and having things you want without taking them for granted. It's about giving yourself and your children a good life, having a decent home, a working car, having a faithful husband/wife, and not having to live pay check by pay check.

I came to a conclusion that there wasn't at least one person who i considered to be happy in the Great Gatsby book. Although they did come out as happy people, deep down inside they weren't. They were people who desired to have more and to solve their problems they had affairs. That shouldn't be a representation of what the American Dream. It should be pictured more dream like rather then depressing.

Raymond Vargas - Final Exam

The AmericanDream can be anything. But it is usually money. If you were to ask someone about the American Dream, they will tell you it's money. If you were to read The Great Gatsby, you will find that in there.

The idea of the American Dream was written down in The Great Gatsby. it shows how some rich people have to go to great lengths to get money. Gatsby had to get money to try and get Daisy Buchanan. He had to do many things for the money he had at the end.

The American Dream is more of an illusion because not everyone can get money like the rich. Some people actually kill themselves while trying to accomplish it. Even if it wasn't an illusion, not everyone succeeds.

The Great Gatsby is a great example on why the American Dream is an illusion. Gatsby got all the money and stuff, but couldn't get Daisy back. He eventually was murdered by Wilson because of what Tom told him. After that, everything goes back to like if nothing happened.

Jaymie Salevao Final exam

The American dream to me means to have freedom. To be able to do what you want to do. To be able to start something and finishing it. Your still going to have struggles but the at the end, you have succeeded. The American dream is to be happy, if your not happy then your not living the dream.
The Great Gatsby was a book that taught a lesson. Some of us got it, and some of us didn't. It was for everyone to realize that you don't have the American dream unless you love what you do and it brings you happiness. People think it's about having money.
In the Great Gatsby it shows that being rich and having everythingis nothing. Everyone thought that Gatsby was living the dream. Because he had a mansion, money, he threw great parties. That was the dream. People envied him, because he had what they didn't and wanted. But Gatsby thought otherwise.
He was not happy. He wanted Daisy. He loved her so much. He was willing to give up all his fortune for the woman he loved. Then he died because he covered for Daisy, who ran over Myrtle and she died. To me he died because he was rich and sad and was supposely living the dream. But he realized that it wasn't the dream.
He wanted to be with Daisy and that was his dream. If your not happy then something has to change. Not all people live the American dream.

Tragedy: A medieval narrative poem or tale typically describing the downfall of a great man. I think this definition is a great reflection of Beowulf, who is a great worrier. Beowulf is a great leader and a powerful man who has a reputation taking down the most deadly monsters. He has been called apron by the king to slay one of the most evil creatures, Grendel. perfect task for who has Beowulf's long history of destroying villains. He excepts the battle and travel over seas to take on the challenge.

Beowulf and his men land on the village. enters the kingdom for the first night and comes into contact with Grendel. The animal goes on a rampage into the kingdom and Beowulf is there waiting for him. Beowulf and the monster battle inside the village, He chops off his arm and kills Grendel. He is now the hero everyone and everyone is fond of him. Later on he takes over the kings role which has a spell that's hunted by Grendel's mother. He marries the queen and he is now on top of the kingdom.

After having interactions with Grendel's mother in the past he is forced to fight one more time. The middle aged Beowulf is challenged to slay the dragon which is his son. He heads back to the village to battle it out with him. The dragon was getting the best of Beowulf but just like everyone he fights Beowulf manage to come out on top for the victory. As the spell was still on Beowulf he slays the dragon but as he killed the dragon he kills himself in the process. Him and the dragon die at the same time. Beowulf is a great worrier who really triumphed in his Earlie life but he fell in love with having glory. This is a real story on how a great man went from triumph to tragedy.

The American Dream by Mayra Olivera

The American Dream is ones biggest desire. Gatsby's American Dream was to gain Daisy's love. In order to do so he became wealthy.
Ones American Dream could be anything. Whether its being the wealthiest person in the world or being able to get by everyday. In my opinion The American Dream is very real. Everyone has their own to try and accomplish.
Gatsby did not accomplish his American Dream. Even though he became a wealthy man he was not able to get Daisy's love and affection. Daisy was a gold digger and didn't know what love is.
The American Dream is the thing that one wants the most. Something you would practically do anything for. The American Dream would be your greatest accomplishment.

The Great Gastby and The American Dream.(Ada Munoz)

The relation with these two are simular. The Great Gastby. The title includes Great that has many definitions: like Successful, Achivement, and Power. These all link to the American Dream to many people, talk about how it is to acheive. To go to school, graduate college and getting into a career that makes you successful. After, Live your life with riches and to be powerful with money, and life.

The Great Gastby, was rich and powerful. Friends with powerful people. This book is all about money, love and power. Getting caught up in the middle of everything. Money and riches ...
Obsession.

Discrimination to the poor. A tragety love. A leading to murder. The American Dream is a visual to many. Seeing life perfect so one says.

The American Dream is a obsession. Thats why many risk their lives. Die in a desert trying to come to America to "Live" the "American Dream". Money, Women, and Power is in the thoughts of many. So we realize that The Great Gastby is really not too Great.

Great: acheivement, successful, and powerful. Are to be kept in mind.

Fahrenheit 451 was an interesting book. Reality hits you when you read it. You realize how much it relates to the real world. So much tagedy and hatefullness are simulated and well compared to real life.

A tragedy is a serious drama typically describing a conflict between the protagonist and a superior force and having a sorrowful or disasterous conclusion that ecites pity or terror. That sums up the book in one definition. Tragedy was the main point in the book.

Fahrenheit 451 had tragedy because firemen were killing dreams and excitement of the people in the town. People loved reading books and loved the excitement but the firement did not want to allow it. If people were caught with any books the firemen would burn the house down right along with the books.

I think that it is a shame that the firemen would treat people in that kind of manner. The people dont hurt anybody by just writing a book. It is a tragedy that two human beings would treat peole in the way for no reason at all. The thing that makes this such a unique book is that it relates to the real world so its easier for you to understand.

Final Exam The American Dream:jessica varela

The book Fahrenhiet 451 relates to the American Dream, because the book Fahrenheit 451 didn't have freedom for their society at all. They would discriminate those who loved to read. And this is how the American dream goes...

To me the American Dream is when you have the freedom to do whatever is on your mind. My American Dream is to finish college and to persue my career. Also my American Dream is to have freedom to speak, to stand out for myself. Money, power, and to be sucessful.

In the book Fahrenheit 451 after people hoped for help to mankind in the aftermath of the war that had been declared. Montag, a character in the book, his role was to memorize the book of Ecclesiastes. And after the jet bombs Montag and his new friends moved to search for survivors and to rebuild civilization. I relate this to the American dream becuase an American dream is to make things better to make things better to make a society a better place. Montag and his friend search for people! all becuase of books. because they had no freedom what's-so-ever.

My essay theme is the American Dream because an American is to have freedom of all opportunity and the book didnt have that at all. So i believed that this is why the American Dream is realted to the book.

Tragedy By Mitzy Palafox

The meaning of tragedy is something horrifying happens. Everybody goes through difficult times in life. The book Fahreinheit 451, people never realized what was going on. They weren't allowed to have books and if they had any the firefighters would burn their homes.
Montag was a fireman. He was curious upon why they weren't allowed to have books. Supposably the government wanted everybody happy but he didn't want his citizens to read. It caused a lot of tragedy to Montag because once they found out he had books, they began looking for him. He was all over the news.
His wife Mildred was crazy. She would try to commit suicide by swallowing many pills. By the next day, She acted like nothing had happened. Not remembering she was hurting herself is tragedy because maybe Mildred could have died. Montag later on would ask himself if he was happy. In reality was wasn't.
The government said he wanted everybody satisfied and unstressed. But what about books? If that's what made people happy, why couldn't he just let them keep it. Montag wanted books and because he wasn't allowed to, he went through tragedy in order to get what he wanted and that was to read books to find the TRUTH.

I Am the American dream. I'm a lot like Gatsby.I got a big house with two cars and little people clean my house.

Since being the best isn't always easy. i make fun of other people to keep life balanced.

when Gatsby talks about his life. it reminds me of being back home. sipping tea with the family.

So you ask what is the American dream? your mom! and possibly your dad.

I think the American dream is real. I mean look at Micheal Jordan and Gatsby. I am the American dream.

Rebekah Thebodeau final exam

"The Meaning of Tragedy for Grendel"
Grendel is the monster from the beginning of the story (and or movie) Beowulf.
The reason I picked this combination for the final is so I can not only point out Grendel's tragedy but all of the ones the not only effect him but other people. Like Hrothgar, the king of Harriot, also the father of Grendel. Hrothgar slept with Grendel's mother (who never had a name known as "witch, old hag, monster in the lake"). She offered him peace and gold and a crown if he got her pregnant, so he did. After Grendel was old enough she let him loose to attack the town (towns tragedy). The Queen found out about Hrothgar and Grendel's mother, so the Queen refused to sleep with the Hrothgar to bare him a son. So the attacks on the town slowly worsened and soon he called out for Beowulf who killed Grendel the Kings only son which drove the king to suicide. Which was the kings ultimate tragedy.
Beowulf had to kill the mother and he got the same offer as the original king had so he slept with her (this is connected to Grendel because she had Beowulf "make" her a new son.). Which starts the whole new tragedy.
Grendel is supposed to be a disgustingly hideous monster, he also looks "slimey" and like yuck... He's supposed to be very strong and tall. In my own opion this is a tragady it's self.
So the meaning of tragidy for Grendal to me is he's llost an outcast alone and fatherless so probly full of remorse and hate, he had no one but his mother to keep him company which made him like a gaint baby. He had no real life outside of there cave. This is his tragedy.

~X{Gatsby's American Dream}X~

In the book "the great Gatsby" it illustrates to the reader that if your American dream is to achieve wealth and fame. that you need only to seek it and it will come

For example, in the book, Gatsby searches to obtain wealth in order to gain the attention and affection of his love interest. Gatsby ended up making a portion of his dream come true by attaining wealth and becoming a playboy of sorts. However, the book also depicted the dark side of the American dream (If I will) because Gatsby ended up not getting the girl and he was shot and killed which I hear is not that fun...

In my opinion not everyone can achieve the American dream like Gatsby did. because in order to attain fame and fortune in the real world you have to be good at something, have some type of talent (and in all honesty not everyone is that talented).

so, In conclusion It is next to impossible to achieve the American dream of having vast amounts of wealth (which is most every one's dream) if you are not at least talented. the exception, of course, would be those lucky few (cough, cough Youtube, cough) so even though is is sort of an illusion of the American dream it is a good read if your bored.

The American Dream By:Evan Byram- final exam

The american dream means different means to peoples. some peoples american dreams are freedom, play rock band, to be a singer, to be a teacher, have alot of money,to get married to a beautiful girl and spend the rest of my live with her,and so much more. Some counties doesn't have freedom and have their own dreams. That why they come to America because they don't want to listen to a king or a queen.
Having a king or queen is like having a boyfriend or girlfriend that going out with every one else like you son, your daughter, your farther, your mom, some one you don't like and so much more people. they love to boss you and the other people around and you had to do everything they told you to do because you had no freedom.
Every book have a American dream some tell you about what other people want to do, for a example "Farihite 451" because the book is about the government making firefighters burn books because they didn't want anybody to learn more than what they already know. I really want to burn all the books because we have computars that we could read the books off the internet. We could just listen to the books on a CD on a cd player or download it on a ipod or mp3 player.
that is the American to people. I really want to know what is you American dream. thanks for reading this.

How I think Edgar A. poe died. Well, im really not sure. But the things that i do know that he didn't die of is that they say he ahd rabies when he didn't. because there was no proof of a bite mark or skratchfound on him. and they say he owned cat and im not sure if cats had rabies but the cat was not found at the time. The dotors had a good idea to say rabies because at the time there wasn't really a good cure for it. So to me it only leads to one thing and that is drinking. One of the headlines say "If POE HAD SUCCEEDED WHEN HE SAID NEVERMORE TO DRINKING". So that says he had to be drinking on his last day.And it says that he was sweaty on the day he went to the hospital and he was very pale so that tells me he was getting a fever with the side effects.Poeple say he was sitting on a stu by a saloon drunk. Then 4 days later he had died. And it most had been a fever or had a deadly sickness. And im thinking that it might have not been from drinking he probly just got real sick.

There are many characteristics of a true hero. A person goes through many adventures to become a hero. There are also stages to go through as a hero.
The separation. The person must find a reason to leave their comfort zone. In the “Beowulf” film, Beowulf must leave to go fight a dragon that has been terrorizing his village. He isn’t a man of hesitation, especially when it comes to the safety of his village. Once informed of the dragon, Beowulf was very courageous and went to the dragons layer to kill it.
Then there is the initiation. He goes to the unknown with a mentor and has a transformation. Although Beowulf didn’t have a mentor, he does have a right hand man. Wiglaf is a person that kind of helped, saw, and figured things out for Beowulf. During the initiation is the transformation, when Beowulf finally killed the dragon. It was a difficult fight for Beowulf but even with a broken arm, he killed the dragon.
The final stage would be the return. Beowulf, unfortunately, dies from his injuries while slaying the dangerous dragon. What he did achieve was a creation. He made a safer village for his people by killing the dragon. He also made all the gold the dragon was shielding available to the village. He didn’t get the opportunity to return to his village with pride for killing the dragon but he made a creation. The hero’s journey is a common theme of literature and film. Beowulf is a great example of this story. It shows what a person what must do to be considered a hero, a hero’s struggle, and their ending result.

Beowulf and King Hrothgar

There are many similarities between Beowulf and King Hrothgar. The similarities between Beowulf and King Hrothgar were very different from the book and the movie. There are some differences between them too.
Some of the similarities are Beowulf and King Hrothgar slept with Grendel’s mother in the movie, but in the book they didn’t do any thing with her. They fight to help out their people.
The differences between them are that King Hrothgar would buy people off and Beowulf got what he wanted by telling stories. King Hrothgar is a king who was set to fight the beast. King Hrothgar tired to faced the monster himself, but he never fought the monster. Beowulf is mature into a wise leader. Which that makes him a strong, brave warrior who kills both of the monsters that everybody is scared of. Beowulf killed both of the monsters because he’s never afraid of any thing he’ll do any thing to defined his people from any thing. Beowulf has so much confidence cheers the Danish warriors.

Hrothgar does not know how to solve his own problems. Beowulf cares for others. He sails to Denmark with a company of men to defeat Grendel because everyone fears him. Beowulf rides a beautiful black horse and only fights with weapons when he has to. King Hrothgar has a castle who in its main tower had giant opening and closing fists. The similarities between Beowulf and King Hrothgar are that the both slept with Grendel’s mother in the movie but not in the book. Beowulf and Hrothgar are both did liked by Grandel. Relationship of man and women of Beowulf
The relationship between the man and women in Beowulf are very difficult there are a lot of very intrusting parts in the movie from both sides man and woman and they are different in their own way.
I’m going to be talking about Beowulf, hothgar and grendels mother. All of these characters play very good parts in the movie Beowulf.
First I’ll start of with hrothgar. hrothger was a very good king he stands up for his village in many different ways he was willing to die and help Beowulf save his village. The only thing about hrothger was he was to money hungry he wanted the fame and that’s what he was about.
Beowulf was the same I would say he was the true worrier, king out of the two. Beowulf was vary determine to save hrothgers village. The only thing different was that Beowulf just wanted his name to be legend he wanted to die the greatest worrier.
Grendels mother was a little opposite she did everything to destroy hothgars village when her son got killed bye Beowulf so she used Beowulf with her sexy body and got Beowulf to have sex with her and she mad a dragon out of his baby to kill Beowulf. She was also a king to just in her own way but she just killed people in hothgars village just for her son.
The relationship between the man and the woman were almost the same it was more of the relationship between good and evil.

rAnDy PeRceLlE final exam essay

The relationship between men and woman is different in many ways. In book, stories, and movies men has almost always on top.
But is it all way like that. What about wonder women, cat woman, and spider girl. As the list goes on the men is always on top.
Men has been honored for centuries. Men hunt to get food. The backbone of the family. He makes all the rules as well. Usually he makes more money then she so he feels the power. So he makes the rules.
Woman roles are more hidden then man. Woman means a lot. Without them life would be harder. Just to think how are guys going to make children. Woman I have to push and push. Cooking, cleaning, fix and making sure everything is going smooth. In and out the house.

In Butterfly Revolution the girls had their own camp and the boys had theirs. The boys and girls had the same rights, they were equal. The girls were not limited to anything. They kind of had more power then the boys. Men, Women, Boys, Girls we should all have the same rights.

High Pines Summer Camp for boys started out like a regular camp. When the older boys got tired of being treated like they were 10 years old. They decided to start a revolution Frank Reilly and Stanely Runk became the leaders or the revolution. They convinced all the boys to be in the revolution except for Don Egris. Frank over threw Stanely and became the only leader.

Low Pines Summer Camp for the girls was not far from High pines. The girls were talked into joining the revolution. They were given the same positions as boys except for guarding and the girls had to cook. They got to decide the punishment for the boy who took the girl into the woods. They got say in most the things that went on during the revolution.

Finally what it all comes down to is that the girls and boys had the same rights. The girls Might have wanted a harsh punishment but they got what they wanted. They were treated no different then the boys.

The Butterfly Revolution Final Essay

The young revolutionary is the dictator that men instinctively seek. This book talks about boys seeking the ways of an adult life. Dictating, and a brutal organization. It started with a young leader named Winston Weyn. Winston is a son of a stricted Father and to a religious Mother, and a brother to a hard-ass named Howard Weyn. Winston is more into books, the world and its ways of the humans.

Howard is a “Normal kid“, So his Father says. He is more into girls, and wants to go to college and be a Professional Football player. Winston and his brother both compare the fact that they both look at their Father as the Leader. Though Winston dislikes his Father he is under his rules.

They have there major differences; Winston, and Howard. Winston is more into peoples powers and dictatorship. He is more into exploring a revolution. A psycho government and its rules is what he is more into. Herodotus is the book he enjoys reading he always compares life to this book. Everything he is into is what this book relates to. This book is what starts this revolution.

Howard being opposite to his brother is more into his popularity and the way he looks to others. He gets embarrassed by the way his brother looks. To many, Winston is a Nerd and a Book Worm. Howard likes to be a Tough guy. Although Howard has bad grades he wants to go to college and be something big and popular.

This book is interesting. It starts getting out of hand. Its young and evil.

Beowulf/Hrothgar
Compare and contrast

This movie Beowulf has characters that shared the same qualities, in other cases the same differences. King Hrothgar and Beowulf where exactly the same in most aspects. Respect is a must at all time, They give orders and expect you to follow them. The both had high and mighty personalities and prefer to be rich. They have strong demeanors and will take on any challenge, take or battle at hand.
They also enjoy the same company of women. Hrothgar’s queen was a young and beautiful lady, she was also attracted to Beowulf. Beowulf also had a thing for hrothgar’s wife as soon as he arrived to the village. The queen ended up with Beowulf when the king had committed suicide. Like the king Beowulf had a young woman while he was with the queen.
When things really hit the fan in the movie the to men where obligated to slay grendels mother. They both failed to do so. Grendels mother swayed Hrothgar
And Beowulf into making a deal with them. Like Hrothgar Beowulf had taken the wrong route by having relations with the demon woman. Beowulf acted as he defeated grendels mother in the battle as well as Hrothgar did. Hrothgar set Beowulf up for failure and put all responsibilities in Beowulf’s hands, as it happen to Hrothgar a time ago. These are two negative, and important qualities they have alike.
Differences, king Hrothgar were a very good warrior he also fought to keep his village. Not to take anything away from the king, he was money hungry. The king was after glamour fortune and fame. He loved the fact that he was high and mighty took advantage of having authority over people. That quality of a typical king but Hrothgar was a greedy man. On the other hand Beowulf took the “long live the king” approach he was more after longevity and legacy. Beowulf was a great warrior who explored the lands fighting and killing, making his presents felt as the greatest warrior who ever lived. He wanted people for thousands and thousands of years to come to know his name speak of his name.
Beowulf was also a greater warrior than Hrothgar. As a mid-age king Hrothgar was dealing with a beast Grendels mother. He didn’t handle his own problems. Hrothgar was forced to call upon some one else, which was Beowulf. On the other hand Beowulf handled is own unfinished business with grendels mother on his own. The worrier also scarifies his life to save his kingdom by slaying the dragon.

Beowulf’s Journey

Grendel has attacked the people of Greatland and killed a lot of people. Beowulf has traveled across the seas to Geatland to fight Grendel the monster. Grendel appears and killed more people but this time Beowulf was there to fight him and cut his and hand off. Grendel died in his mother’s hands. Beowulf killed Grendel and everyone believed in Beowulf even the King because he killed Grendel. The king sends Beowulf to kill Grendel’s mother. He didn’t kill her and she proposes Beowulf to have a child with her and he will be king forever. He made his decision and they had a child. He lied to the people of Geatland telling them that he has killed Grendel’s mother, but there was one person he couldn’t lied to “The King” Beowulf to him that he didn’t killed her so the king killed himself and Beowulf became the King of Geatland. He had to wait until his son comes out. They had to fight but at the end both of them end up kill.

I feel good about Beowulf’s choice because he knew that he couldn’t kill Grendel’s mother. That was his only chance to do what he had to do so he sacrifice having a child with her and give his life fighting his dragon son and fix his mistake.

Beowulf final essay by Kayla Thomas

When a book is made into a film there are a lot of things that the editors for the movie leave out of the actual story line. They do this to shorten the story to ensure that the movie is not too long. There are many elements in the story of Beowulf that where left out of the movie.

For example, some of many differences are that in the book it stated that herothgar was friends with Beowulf’s father. In the movie however, that fact was never mentioned. Also, in the movie Beowulf slept with Grendel’s mother and bore a child which was portrayed as the dragon Beowulf fought towards the end of the story. But, in the book he actually killed Grendel’s mother and the dragon was just another random obstacle of Beowulf’s hero’s journey.

Even though there were many differences, there were also some few and slight similarities. In both the movie and book version Beowulf died in the battle with the dragon. He went to fight the dragon with wiglaf by his side. In both versions Beowulf make wiglaf the new king upon his death. There were also similarities in the reason why Grendel attacked heorot.

In conclusion, when comparing and contrasting the book from the movie of Beowulf It is easy to see the many differences from book to film due to editing. But for the movie they do keep some very important key events on the movie to make it still entertaining while also not losing the audience because they don’t get it.

Finals Essay By: Rebekah Thebodeau

When comparing and contrasting the movie from the book there are a lot of differences, and very few similarities. This happens a lot when a book is changed into a movie.

I was able to find a lot of differences between the movie and the book. Like in the book Herothgar was friends with Beowulf’s father back in the day, they never mentioned that in the movie. Herot was made out of gold in the book and in the movie you couldn’t tell if it was or not (so I’m not %100 on if this is a difference or not). In the book the fight between Grendle and Beowulf, Beowulf stripped down to prove how strong he was in the book, but in the movie Beowulf was already nude. In the movie Beowulf mad e love to Grendle’s Mom, in the book Beowulf fought and killed her. Beowulf became king of Herot in the movie because Herothgar killed himself, and in the book he left Herot to go further his fame and go on more fantastic journeys. In the movie the dragon Beowulf kills is his son from the monster lady he boned down with, but in the book it was just your everyday dragon protecting his treasure.

Their where very few similarities between the book and the movie that I could find. In both the book and the movie, Grendle has a mother. Beowulf went to Herot, and fights Grendle in the nude. Beowulf rips off Grendles arm. Grendle’s mom gets mad and attacks Herot. Beowulf fights a dragon. Beowulf gives his gold to Wiglaf ( Beowulf’s B.F.F.). And Beowulf dies. These are the only ones I can think of at the moment.

So all in all the book and the movie are obviously different in many, many ways. But that’s okay ‘cause they’re both amazing stories, fun to read and watch.

In life it's hard to stand up for what you believe in because sometimes people can laugh or try to put you down. In the book The Butterfly Revolution, it gave a lot of action into how some people stood up for themselves and others would do wrong choices. A child by the name of Frank Reilly, was a straight A student who had huge eyes and was brave enough to stand up for himself to be leader and begin a revolution. As an experience to the children who went to the camp, had a crazy experience that turned out of control. He was a kid who somehow had control over everyone because he would confuse him. Nobody would want to confront Reilly as a group and stop the revolution because they were too afraid of the consequences they might have to pay. Then, the kids from camp didn't realize that the more confusion they had the more control Frank would have over them. He didn't want to stop the revolution until he thought it was safe to do so. But Frank was completely wrong. Problems would keep getting worse and worse. An example was like when Frank and Stanley disliked each other when in reality they caused a crime by killing Mr. Warren. Nobody knew about it until the cops came and Stanley confessed about it. He said that Frank holded his arms while he stabbed Mr. Warren. Everything got so out of control in the revolution. The kids were manipulated with the way Frank gave out his speeches.Winston knew that everything he would say were pure lies. The revolution was suppose ably to have fun. Frank had the plans and others would put it in action. What had saved Winston into going into jail was his diary. He would write every night before sleeping of how he felt. The biggest problem was saying the pledge because Winston didn't believe in God. He stood up for his rights and ended up not saying the pledge. In this book it showed me that if people don't really stand up for themselves things can go really wrong. In Butterfly revolution three people were murdered and it was only because one guy wanted to have fun.

Relationship/roles of men and women.
In the book Butterfly Revolution the boys were seperated from the girls. When they had their Revolution the boys were in charge. Maybe because they had the idea to do it and the girls joined later, I dont know. They were still treated the same as the guys. They were well respected.
When a girl had a problem with one of the guys they didn't tell her to butt off or to go away. The boys were nice about it and helped her out with her problem. The boys tried to dignify the girls needs whenever they needed some help from other boys.
In beowulf it is a whole different story. The boys are in charge like in Butterfly Revolution but the girls they didin't have no rights. They had to serve the men in anyway they wanted to be served. But their was a lady monster. She was like the guy she would make any guy do what she wanted. She had like the power to do it.
I dont think this is right having the girls do whatever the guys wanted them to do. It's good that the years have changed over these past years because I wouldn't like to serve anybody in any way. I wouldn't feel free. I would feel locked up in a dungin with peur evil.

BEOWULF

Throughout the movie Beowulf there were lots of differences and similarities between the characters. Beouwulf would get what he wanted by telling his stories. King Hrothgar bought people off. However they were both party guys.

Beowulf would tell his stories to other people and always tried to make himself sound like the better “warrior”. He was really into himself. For example when he fought Grendel. He didn’t mind the fact that he was naked. He just always liked to show that he was the better warrior.

King Hrothgar on the other hand would buy people off for his own personal gain. Whenever he wanted something he had plenty of riches to give off. He wanted to have a son but his queen wouldn’t have intimate relations with him because he was Grendels father.

In spite of these differences they were both party guys. They both loved women and gold. Neither one was afraid of a fight. They both had intimate relations with Grendels mother. So as different as they were they had several similarities.

Throughout the movie Beowulf, king hrothgar and Beowulf had many differences and similarities. They both loved women and gold and weren’t afraid of a fight. But at the same time Beowulf was a better warrior than king Hrothgar.

My final exam essay is on Beowulf’s Journey. This is the first part of the story. This is the part where he fights Grendel and his mother. He is a young man looking for glory and fame.

The calling was in the land of the Geats. A young man by the name of Beowulf was leaving Sweden to go help a friend of his father. The friend’s name is King Hrothgar. The king needed help and Beowulf goes because he feels the need to help Hrothgar. The threshold was when at the kingdom of Hrothgar, Beowulf boasts his accomplishments to the king’s men. One night, a creature by the name of Grendel attacks Hrothgar’s men. The descent was when Beowulf goes and fights Grendel without any weapons.

The abyss in the first part of Beowulf’s tale is Herot, the party place of Hrothgar, and Grendel’s lair. The mentor was a magic sword, crafted by giants. He used it to defeat Grendel’s mother. The transformation was when he kills Grendel without any weapons. He defeated Grendel’s mother and leaves the lair.

The return and creation was when he returned. He had killed Grendel’s mother and Grendel. The place called Herot can now be used again without any fear. Beowulf fights only for glory and fame.

The conclusion is that Beowulf is a hero. He saved Herot from the terror and killing of Grendel and his mother. Most people today would think of Beowulf as a killer, but back then; he was considered the archetypal superhero.

Compare & Contrast

I’m compare and contrasting Beowulf and Hrothgar. I’m going to compare them by being kings. I’m also going to compare the witch with them. I’m going to contrast Hrothgar killing himself and Beowulf being killed.
Hrothgar was the first king of the kingdom he had. And he was a great king. Just that he committed dumb choices. Then Beowulf came along to fix the problems that Hrothgar made. Then he also made the same choice that Hrothgar made.
Hrothgar had slept with a witch and had a kid. His name was Grendel. And Grendel starts to destroy their parties. That’s when Beowulf came along and killed Grendel. Then Beowulf goes and tries to kill the witch and ends up sleeping with her also.
So when Beowulf sleeps with her the king finds out and gives the crown to Beowulf. Before giving it to him he kills himself. That’s when Beowulf becomes the king. After a while Beowulf’s kid grew up but he never knew. His son was a dragon and the dragon tries to destroy the kingdom. And Beowulf ends up killing the dragon and dies a hero.
So pretty much Hrothgar killed himself and was a coward towards my eyes. And Beowulf does not, he ends up dieing by the way he really was. But they were more similar to each other. Just that Hrothgar was not a hero like Beowulf.

Remember those movies… that are really different from the books? Yep, Beowulf is one of those. But the main point of the story doesn’t change much, just the things that happened. For example Beowulf never changed, he is still the same brave and feared guy that doesn’t have any fears in both the movie and the book.
Beowulf is never afraid. And he proves this by going to the Dragon’s Cave. He goes there with hunger for gold and an attitude to kill the dragon. He is always just looking for ways to show that he is the bravest and that he should be the one feared, not just some silly dragon.
To me his initiation would be going to the dragons cave. Beowulf wasn’t the only one that fought the dragon. Wigliaf was there to help Beowulf complete this. And since Wigliaf was there to help Beowulf, I think that makes him a mentor.
I guess the ending doesn’t always have to be a happy ending… well at least that’s not what happened in this epic story. Beowulf’s return to me was when he died and all his jewels and gold that he earned were now his people’s. After all he fought the dragon to protect his people and to gain gold… and possibly to be well known and to be talked about even after his death. And It worked, after all this time people still tell the story about Beowulf.

The movie Beowulf, compared to the book is a little different. What never changes in either the book or the movie is that Beowulf is always the same fearless, brave guy. He battles to try to win the gold. He meets Wigliaf and goes to the dragons cave to defeat the dragon. After his big adventure he leaves and gives his gold and jewels to his people.
It’s the final battle to win the gold. Beowulf again goes to battle because he’s never afraid to fight. He goes to the dragons cave to show his braveness. He goes with an intention to kill the dragon so he can win the gold and also to protect his people.
His initiation is also him going to the dragons cave. It’s not only Beowulf fighting the dragon. Wigliaf goes with him to help each other kill the dragon. Beowulf’s mentor I would have to say is of course Wigliaf; he helps him defeat the dragon.
Beowulf’s return is that he dies and joins his great companion. When he dies all his gold and jewels are to be his peoples. His main purpose of fighting the dragon was to defend his people and to win the gold. Beowulf’s people create him a barrow. After all Beowulf’s legend has lived on.

I am choosing to write my essay on The Butterfly Revolution. The story started off pretty boring, but then it got very interesting. the challenges and difficulties some of the kids went threw at the camp were some what serious.

A lot of the kids were scared and some didn't want to join the revolution with the rest of the kids. it's very difficult trying to stand up for yourself and what you believe in, especially when your standing alone. Everybody else is against you.

My favorite charater in The Butterfly Revolution is Winston. he was like your average guy. He didint believe in god and because of that it was alot of things he didnt want to do. Like say the pledge. But he cracked cause he was so soft and punkable. the only black person in the whole book. is the only person who stood up for himself and never gave in. Guess what happen to him? He died! So standing up is not always a good idea. when your out numbered. Thats why i like Winston.

i think that if your life is at stake then maybe you should follow the crowd. isolationg yourself from everybody esle isn't a good idea either. he (the black boy)should have been organizing a grop of anti-revoutionary troops. then when he got blamed for rape he would have had some one to back him up.

The book definitly made me never want to go to any bodys cam. Also I learned that before you make a decision make sure it is well thought out first. Then things are more likely to run smoothly.

Jessica Varela Final Exam

The Butterfly Revolution is a novel written by William Butler. The story takes place in America, in the 1960's. The novel is about a few young kids taking over a summer camp. All starts with the captains leaders, and the revolution. Here I am going to compare and contast Winston and frank Reilley.

Winton Weyn is the main character of the book. He has a cool personality which is interesting. He is a so call "Born leader". Winston always makes good decisions and he knows how to manage his time properly. He has power and control when he gives his opinions on the revolution. He has power and control when he gives his opinions on the revolution. His thoughts on the committee shows what really is the main deal about.

General Frank is the dictator that boys tend to follow. He is a strong, better kid than Winston. He approaches Winston to ask if he knows the meaning of the word Lepidophera. Frank seems to be nicer, he gives ice cream, has parties, and even gets in the girls camp. Then a Supreme Revolutionary Committee starts. Frank gets scared and tries to escape. But gets tied down to a tree, and gets whipped.

Now I am going to compare and contrast Frank and Winston. Winston starts noticing that Frank is smart boy. He says he would like to keep an eye on that kid. Winston discovers that Frank has a knife who belongs to Stanley. Winston tries to battle the founders if the butterfly revolution over freedom of choice. Which is so immature. Now, Frank Reilley insists that the principle of this revolution is loyal to its law. They're similar because they are both dumb. And they're both in between the revolution. The difference is that Frank does try to get out of this mess, and Winston, he is just all hooked up on this mess.

Lastly, with Winstons violent behavior, he ends up not getting charged because they are unfound. Winston no longer thinks Frank crazy about the revolution. The ploice are finally the ones who ends this revolution mess. Frank and Winston are good exmaples of characters, to compare and contrast. This whole revolution thing was just a immature situation for them.
