Rebekah Thebodeau final exam

"The Meaning of Tragedy for Grendel"
Grendel is the monster from the beginning of the story (and or movie) Beowulf.
The reason I picked this combination for the final is so I can not only point out Grendel's tragedy but all of the ones the not only effect him but other people. Like Hrothgar, the king of Harriot, also the father of Grendel. Hrothgar slept with Grendel's mother (who never had a name known as "witch, old hag, monster in the lake"). She offered him peace and gold and a crown if he got her pregnant, so he did. After Grendel was old enough she let him loose to attack the town (towns tragedy). The Queen found out about Hrothgar and Grendel's mother, so the Queen refused to sleep with the Hrothgar to bare him a son. So the attacks on the town slowly worsened and soon he called out for Beowulf who killed Grendel the Kings only son which drove the king to suicide. Which was the kings ultimate tragedy.
Beowulf had to kill the mother and he got the same offer as the original king had so he slept with her (this is connected to Grendel because she had Beowulf "make" her a new son.). Which starts the whole new tragedy.
Grendel is supposed to be a disgustingly hideous monster, he also looks "slimey" and like yuck... He's supposed to be very strong and tall. In my own opion this is a tragady it's self.
So the meaning of tragidy for Grendal to me is he's llost an outcast alone and fatherless so probly full of remorse and hate, he had no one but his mother to keep him company which made him like a gaint baby. He had no real life outside of there cave. This is his tragedy.
